A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on May 12, 2010 at the Federal Bureau of Prisons Correctional Facility in Englewood, Colorado to formally open the turnkey solar hot water heating system installed by Abengoa Solar of Lakewood, Colorado under contract to Johnson Controls.
The solar system consists of 160 parabolic PT-1 collector modules comprising 22,720 ft2 (2111 m2) of collector area situated on 1.7 acres (0.7 hectare) of land area. The latest generation of ASI’s PT-1 parabolic concentrator module was used, continuing a process of improvement, field deployment and testing going back over 20 years. The solar collectors are manufactured at ASI’s headquarters in Lakewood, CO in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.
Parabolic Troughs tracking the sun
The parabolic troughs track the sun continually during the day to focus light from the sun onto a receiver tube at the focal point of the parabola. Under peak conditions, the solar field will collect over 4 million Btu/h (1170 kWh) of thermal energy. A mixture of water and anti-freeze is pumped through the absorber tube to deliver heat to a 16,000 gallon (60,000 liter) hot water storage tank. The solar system uses a single 5 hp pump consuming only 2.5 kWh of electrical energy.
A diagram of the solar hot water-heating system is shown below.
Hot water is stored in the tank at temperatures up to 85 C (185 F). DHW is delivered around the clock to serves the needs of over 1000 inmates and staff for showers, and to supply the kitchen and laundry. Over a year, the solar field is projected to reduce the consumption of natural gas used to heat hot water by more than 50%. Over the thirty year life of the solar system, the installation will reduce emission of greenhouse gases by about thirteen thousand tons while contributing to the goals of the US government to reduce energy consumption at federal facilities while promoting employment in the New Energy Economy.
FCI Englewood Solar System: 10 rows with 16 PT-1 modules per row
Abengoa is committed to the development of sustainable solutions to the problems of energy and climate change. The solar thermal technology deployed at FCI Englewood to heat water is also in use at other sites throughout the US delivering cooling and space heat to buildings, and for steam generation to run industrial processes.

So was the celebration over for this period. Possibly they will extend the tax credit or revise it come September, particularly if the market continues to slump.
