New Deadline Invites More Clean Energy Projects to Break Ground in U.S.

Secretary Steven Chu announced this week that the Department of Energy is extending the for the July 2009 energy , and advanced transmission and distribution technologies solicitation.The new Part 1 application deadline is October 5, 2010.

This gives companies an additional six weeks to apply for a under Section 1705, provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

“The Department is committed to bringing as many commercial renewable projects online as possible to help us meet our goals and generate more jobs,” said Secretary Chu. “By extending the can file, we will be able to support additional projects that diversify the country’s clean energy mix and strengthen our economy.”

The extension creates an eighth round of by the Department’s Loan Guarantee Program and is intended to give companies additional time to develop and submit Part I applications.

The Part II application deadline is still December 31, 2010.
