Savini SiteMILAN, Italy and SAN JOSE, Calif., USA. SolFocus, with solar investor Sistema Solare (www.sistemasolare.eu), announced this week completion of a 1.25 MW solar park in Italy. The solar park spans two sites in central Italy, one in Aveani and the other in Savini. These sites combine to form one of the largest Concentrated Solar Photovoltaic(CPV) power plants in the country.
The CPV plants were developed and designed by Ren It (www.renit.it) and built by Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) company DELTA (www.deltalotus.it), which specializes in power plant development with a focus on renewable energy projects.
The SolFocus CPV technology deployed at the site, which was recently on display at Intersolar North America, utilizes a system of patented reflective optics to concentrate sunlight 650 times onto small, highly efficient solar cells. The high-efficiency (30% efficient at converting sunlight to electricity) SolFocus SF-1100S systems feature dual-axis tracking for consistent energy delivery throughout the day, resulting in optimized kilowatt hour production. It also offers environmental benefits including no water usage for energy production, a small land footprint with dual use potential, and no permanent shadowing or wildlife corridor disruption. With a proven track record of on-sun field performance, SolFocus CPV technology serves as an ideal solution for the Italian market.
“Sistema Solare is currently progressing in the realization of CPV projects in Italy with a short-term target of another 10 MW, and together with the developer Ren It we are building a pipeline of approximately 100 MW in the Middle East and Latin American regions,†commented Francesco Marini, Chairman of Sistema Solare. “We looked at a number of CPV providers and felt that the SolFocus approach was the best fit for both the needs of these projects and the local environment,†added Lorenzo Verlicchi, Managing Director of Sistema Solare. The projects were executed under the 4th Conto Energia.
Construction of the sites started in late June 2012 and has just been completed. “We were pleased with the ease of installation of the systems, allowing us to execute on a very aggressive schedule,†said Loris Maroncelli, Chairman of Delta.
“Our partners Sistema Solare, Ren It and Delta have proven to be pioneers in deploying CPV in the country and we look forward to working with them on future projects as well,†said Mark Crowley, CEO of California-based SolFocus. SolFocus has other projects under construction in Italy at this time.
About Sistema Solare
Sistema Solare Spa is an Italian investment company focusing in renewable energy projects. The company realized during the last 12 months, and currently holds in portfolio, approximately 20 MW of operating PV plants on the ground. It is also developing projects with solar concentrator technology (CPV), hydroelectric power, wind and mini-wind power, and aims to consolidate in Middle East and Latin American regions. Sistema Solare, established in April 2010, is managed by a team of professionals with background in investment banking and strategic consulting (McKinsey, Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan) and strong experience in renewable energy industry. The team founded the startup aiming to operate in the renewable energy industry, with an initial focus in photovoltaic segment and other renewable energy business, particularly wind and hydroelectric. Sistema Solare shareholders are Mentasti-Granelli, an important family of Italian entrepreneurs (former owner of San Pellegrino Mineral Waters, and Italian pay-tv company) and Modena Capitale, holding company with total asset of about €200M invested in banking and insurance industry. www.sistemasolare.eu
About R en It
Ren It is an Italian company, based in Abruzzo, involved in developing authorizations for renewable projects both in Italy and abroad. Over the past 18 months Ren It authorized approximately 50 MW of PV projects, of which above 30 MW built (and currently owned) by itself and Sistema Solare. Among the other activities in wind, biomasses and hydro, RENIT GROUP Spa is currently developing a pipeline of approximately 100 MW of solar projects in Middle East and Latin American regions. www.renit.it
About DELTA
DELTA S.r.l. is an Italian company specialized in the wiring system sector, which was founded in 2003 by people with over twenty years’ experience in this field. It is the Group leader of several Italian companies, based in Ravenna – Emilia-Romgna, which includes LOTUS S.r.l. (Commercialization and fiscal calibration of process equipment), DEA ENGINEERING S.r.l. (Design of plants), and OMEGA S.r.l. (Construction of electrical panels). In 2010 Solen S.r.l. and Delta Energie S.r.l. have been established with the specific aim of the renewable plants implementation, offering themselves as E.P.C. (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) to external clients and/or executing plants by their own. As a consequence of the technological and business growth relating to the companies of the group, DELTA S.r.l. is positioning itself in the foreign markets by gaining electrical plants contracts especially in the African continent as well as in Romania through Ambra Service S.r.l., a company with which has been already operating for many years. www.deltalotus.it
