A Residential CHP Unit Using a Free Piston Stirling Engine

sml_micochp_internalBaxi is part of the Baxi Group, one of Europe’s leading heating and home comfort specialists. The company has developed a Micro-CHP unit, the Baxi Ecogen, a free Piston Stirling engine which will generate useable electricity as well as heat for the home.

Baxi Ecogen is a microgeneration unit that generates 1kW of electricity per hour that can be used in the home, while providing up to 24kW of thermal output for space heating and hot water.  It has been developed to operate virtually noise free, in a casing that is no bigger than a standard domestic boiler. The Baxi Ecogen is currently on extensive field trials in the UK, with the aim that it will be commercially available during 2009.

lrg_microchp_roomshotKey features and benefits:

•For the environment: electricity generated close to where it is to be used has fewer carbon emissions and is much more efficient

•For the householder: saving money on electricity bills. In addition, it may be possible to sell unused electricity back to the local grid

•For specifiers and housebuilders: micro-CHP offers an effective way of meeting the UK Government’s targets towards zero carbon homes

•For utilities: micro-CHP offers an effective way of meeting the UK Government’s Carbon Reduction Targets with the CERT Program

Technical data for micro-CHP

•Electricity output 1.1kW

•Thermal output 24kW

•Overal unit efficiency 92%

•Inlet supply pressure 20mbar

•Elecricity supply 230V / 50Hz

•Concealed user controls

•User adjustable temperature

•Noise less than 45dB(A)
