Beyond Hydro Power – Duke Energy’s Brazil Unit Seeks To Expand

SAO PAULO -(Dow Jones)- Duke Energy Corp.’s (DUK) Brazilian unit said Friday it is seeking authorization to change its company statute in order to expand beyond hydroelectric power generation.

The company will ask Aneel, Brazil’s electricity regulator, to approve the change in statute, Duke Energy International Geracao Paranapanema SA (GEPA4.BR) said in a regulatory filing. Once the change is approved by regulators, shareholders and bond holders will vote on the proposed modification.
