Solar Thermal Power and Other Clean Energy Technologies are a Matter of Security

Solar Thermal Power and Other Clean Energy Technologies are a Matter of SecurityThe replacement of fossil fuels is not just a concern for the environment as global warming consequences unfold around the world. Countries such as the U.S. are realizing that an energy policy that encompasses home grown renewable energy is a matter of national security. Concentrated Solar Power and Solar Thermal technologies such as heating, cooling and electrical generation will play a large part in many countries alternative energy portfolio.

The Institute for Defense and Government Advancement (IDGA) has announced its 2nd Alternative Energy for Defense conference, to take place on June 28-30 at the Sheraton Premiere at Tysons Corner in Vienna, VA.

The Department of Defense has set a goal that 25% of its energy should come from renewable sources by 2025. To help assist in this massive effort, IDGA has crafted an event to explore new realities, needs, opportunities and challenges in assuring energy security. Sessions and topics at this groundbreaking, topical event will emphasize current military energy programs, improving energy efficiency and productivity, leveraging solar space, the role of smart grid technologies and hydrogen storage technology, among other subject areas.

The distinguished speaker faculty includes:

– George Solhan, SES, Director, Expeditionary Maneuver Warfare & Combating Terrorism, Office of Naval Research

– Dr. Richard T. Carlin, SES, Department Head, Sea Warfare and Weapons Department, Office of Naval Research

– Col Bob Charette, USMC, Director, Expeditionary Energy Office

– CAPT John J. Hickey, USCG, Commanding Officer, Integrated Support Command Honolulu

– Drexel Kleber, Director, Strategic Operations, Power Surety Task Force, Office of the Secretary of Defense

– Robert M. Moreira, Chief, Manufacturing Sustainment Branch, ARDEC

The conference features a Fuels Focus Day on Monday, June 28 which will examine the technologies employed in alternative fuels. Sessions will focus on renewable transportation biofuels, synthetic fuel developments, domestic renewable fuels and advancement of heavy-fueled engines.
